Pic

Pic is an image-sharing site with end-to-end encryption. Every image uploaded is converted to WebP, has all metadata removed, and is encrypted at client level. Pic does not use a database at all.

Self-hosting

You can install Pic yourself on your own server. All you need is Apache or nginx and PHP.

1. Clone this repository to the location where you want the directory containing the files to be (for example, /var/www/html).
2. Point the web server to the directory and restart the web server.
3. Change domain in config.yml to the domain you will be pointing Pic to.
4. Change root in config.yml to the root directory where Pic is located (for example, /var/www/html).

• All files created by Pic (such as user data) will be stored outside the root directory (for example, /var/www/html) and saved in {root}/files/pic. This can be changed on line 33 of site-settings.php. It is recommended that all these files be stored outside the root directory.
• The directory specified on line 33 of site-settings.php should be created as soon as you visit the webpage on your server.

5. If you do not have a Pic directory for an existing website (e.g. https://domain.tld/pic), remove /pic from lines 31–33 and line 36 in .htaccess.
6. Create an admin account by going to https://pic.domain.tld/admin-create-account.php or https://domain.tld/pic/admin-create-account.php
7. Log in using the login details provided by the website, and you can start using Pic.

AI

AI has been used to write all the code for and encrypt the files that are uploaded. The processing of the uploaded images (before they are saved on the server) has also been written by AI, including the display of thumbnails in the gallery.

AI can make mistakes, so if you have the relevant knowledge, please review the AI-generated code and contact me if you have found any vulnerabilities or other issues that need to be addressed.

All other code has been written by me by hand.
